Our audio file converter supports 18 formats: MP3, AAC, AC3, AIF, AIFC, AIFF, AMR, AU, CAF, DSS, FLAC, M4A, M4B, OGA, VOC, WAV, WEBA, and WMA. You can convert audio between any of these formats in your browser without installing software.
Audio conversion is a lossy process when you move between compressed formats, such as M4A to MP3, so some quality change is normal. To keep quality as close to the original as possible, choose a high bitrate before you convert. Converting from a lossless format like WAV or FLAC to MP3 at a high bitrate gives the best result. Our converter lets you set the bitrate yourself so you stay in control of the trade-off between audio quality and file size.
The upload limit is 1000 MB per file. If your recording is larger than that, consider splitting it before uploading or using our audio compressor to bring the file size down first. Most standard recordings, podcasts, and short audio clips fall well within this limit.
Yes. The online audio converter works in any modern browser, so it runs on phones and tablets as well as desktop computers. If you're on Android, the TheBestPDF app gives you access to the same tools. Open the converter, upload your file from your device, choose your output format, and download the result — the process is the same on any device.
Yes. M4A to MP3 is one of the most common conversions our audio converter to MP3 handles. Upload your M4A file, select MP3 as the output format, set your preferred bitrate, and download. The result plays on virtually any device or platform, including those that don't natively support M4A.
The audio converter produces a standard file in whichever format you chose, so you can open it in any audio editing application that supports that format. If you chose WAV or FLAC, most professional editors will accept it directly. If you need to adjust the file further — such as trimming or mixing — you would do that in your own editing software after downloading.
Our media tools include a video-to-audio conversion option that lets you take the audio track from a video file and save it as a standalone audio file. Supported video formats include MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, WEBM, and more. Once you have the audio file, you can run it through the audio converter to change the format or adjust the bitrate.
An MP3 converter — or any audio format converter — changes an audio file from one format to another: for example, from WAV to MP3 or from M4A to FLAC. People can use, say, an MP3 audio converter online to fix playback compatibility issues, to prepare audio for editing software that requires a specific format, to reduce file size by changing to a compressed format, or to meet the technical requirements of a podcast platform or streaming service. Bitrate and sample rate adjustments during conversion give you additional control over quality and file size.
Converting between audio formats does not add information that wasn't in the original file, so conversion cannot improve quality. It can, however, preserve quality when you choose an appropriate output format and bitrate. Moving to a lossless format like WAV or FLAC avoids further compression. If the original recording is low quality, the converted file will reflect that — no converter changes the underlying audio content.
